Obituary

NICKERSON – Abby Mae (Smith) Murray, 77, passed away Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014. She was born June 22, 1937, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Ted and Ethel Hebel Smith.

She was a 1955, graduate of Hutchinson High School, attended First Southern Baptist Church, worked in the banking industry for many years, but became a stay at home mom when their children came along. Abby volunteered countless hours with many organizations. Her most special one was the Kansas Specialty Dogs Service located in Washington, Kan. She had volunteered over 10,000 hours at KSDS, served as Vice-President of the board of directors the last two years, she was the president of Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Colorado Springs, Colo. volunteering over 5,000 hours there. She volunteered for Multiple Sclerosis Society of Colorado Springs, receiving the Service to Mankind Award. She was active in the Good Sams and Family Motor Coach Assoc. camping organizations, serving on the state board of directors for many years.

Abby was married to Don Murray, her high school sweetheart, on Oct. 25, 1955, one month shy of 59 years. He survives. Other survivors include: their children and spouses, Doug and Susie, of Wakita, Okla., and Donnel and Ken Clay, of Clonmel; brother, Ted Smith, of Colorado Springs; two grandchildren, Aaron Clay of Clonmel, and Matt and Krysten Clay; great-grandson, Malachi, of Dighton; her service dog, Hosta; and countless friends.

Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014, at the First Southern Baptist Church, 1201 East 23rd, Hutchinson, with Pastor Ray Kempel presiding. Cremation has taken place. Her register book will be available Monday through Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
