Alberta J. Spaeny, 84, died Aug. 13, 2013, in Wichita. She was born Feb. 2, 1929, in Hoisington, to Wilbur and Emma (Sherrill) Humphrey.

Alberta graduated from Hoisington High School in 1947. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and Hutchinson Hospital Auxiliary. She worked for Hutch National Bank for 40 years. On Jan. 4, 1948, she married Donald K. Spaeny in Hoisington. He died Dec. 21, 2011. She is survived by: sons, Michael Spaeny and wife Twila of Hutchinson, Mark Spaeny and wife Reja of Springfield, Mo., Matthew Spaeny and wife Mykl of Yukon, Okla.; sisters, Bonnie Stratton of McPherson, Beth Ummel of Wichita; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Alberta was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Betty.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Reverend Jim Rhaesa officiating. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, with family to receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m., at Elliott Mortuary. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, in care of Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
