Alfred 'Frank' Deming II, 94, died June 5, 2020, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson. He was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1925, in Los Angeles, CA, to LaVerne Alfred and Daphne (Hicks) Deming.
He moved from California to Hutchinson in 1926. Frank received his pilot's license when he was 15 years old, while serving in the Civil Air Patrol. He was extremely proud of this accomplishment. Frank was known as 'Junior' by his B-17 bomb crew, serving in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946. He was a decorated ball turret gunner, surviving 32 missions over Axis-controlled territory during World War II. Following his military service, Frank graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1946. He then began working at the family business, that he eventually owned, Deming Photo Studio.
Frank was a member of the Hutchinson-Reno Masonic Lodge #124 A.F. & A.M., a 32 nd degree Mason, Shriners Scooter Patrol, V.F.W. Bob Campbell Post #1361, and American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68. In addition, Frank was an Eagle Scout and loved teaching, camping, fishing, and hunting.
On March 11, 1946, he married Eileen Marie Carrell, in Hutchinson. She died November 2, 1994. In January 1995, he married E. Marvella (Friesen) Thrasher, in Hutchinson. She died February 10, 2019.
Frank is survived by: his children, David Deming (Danita), Cindy Waters (Randy); daughter-in-law, Kathleen Deming; stepchildren, Randy Thrasher (Brenda), Mark Thrasher (Debbie), and Christi Neumann (Jim); 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and his faithful companion, Gracie.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; son, Alfred Deming III; daughter-in-law, Robin Deming; and three brothers, John, Vern, and Leon Deming
A Come-and-Go-Celebration of Frank's life will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 2020, at First Church of God, 704 N. Jefferson, Hutchinson. At 2:30 p.m., honors will be conducted by the Hutchinson-Reno Masonic Lodge #124 A.F. & A.M., followed by military honors conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may sign the book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily at Elliott Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Plane of Mercy (to benefit children's transportation to the Shriner's Children's Hospital), L.I.F.E. (Lifting Individuals from Emptiness-a ministry at First Church of God), or Serenity Hospice, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
Frank left many wonderful memories for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He had a strong faith in God and we look forward to reuniting with him.
