Alfred "Al" Martin Bauer, 84, of Geneseo, formerly of Hutchinson, died Jan. 17, 2011, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born March 16, 1926, in Wichita, to Cornelius Leo and Mary Gross Kane Bauer.
He was a 1944 graduate of Cathedral High School and he attended trade mechanics school in New York. He was a repairman for 35 years for Southwestern Bell Telephone retiring in June of 1985. He was formerly a member of St. Teresa and he was currently attending St. Ignatius, Kanopolis. He was a member of Pioneers of America. He was a Boy Scouts Leader for many years, receiving the Silver Beaver Award. He was in the Army Air Corp serving in Okinawa, Japan.
He married Mary Cornelia Schauner on June 19, 1948, in Wichita. She died Dec. 18, 1995. Other survivors include: sons, Jim and wife Nadia of Plevna, Kan. and John and wife Cheryl of Hutchinson; daughters, Mary Douthit and husband David of Dallas, Texas and Becky Crabbs and husband Joe of South Hutchinson; 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, a granddaughter and a great granddaughter.
Funeral service 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, at St. Teresa Catholic Church, Hutchinson, with Father Nicholas Voelker officiating. Burial in Penwell-Gable Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. Military Graveside Rites conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard.
Friends may sign the book 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Parish Rosary 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson. Memorials may be sent to American Cancer Society in care of Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson.
