Alice Crosby Gunn Evans died June 16, 2013, at Hester Care Center, Hutchinson. Alice was born March 5, 1920, in Kansas City, Mo., to Alice C. and Frederick C. Gunn.
She attended Colorado College, majoring in Art before transferring to Kansas State, where she received a degree in Home Economics. She taught Home Ec in Belton, Mo., for one year.
On May 21, 1942, she married Richard L. Evans Jr. of rural Hutchinson after he graduated from K- State.
Besides raising her three children and helping in the family farming operation, she was active in the community. At K-State she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and was an active member of the Hutchinson alumni group. She was a 4-H sewing leader and was a judge at the county and state level. She loved her Chapter D P.E.O. group, and was also a member of the Darlow Study Club and the Lincoln EHU. She and Richard were elected to the Master Farmer and Master Farm Homemakers Association, where they were active until 2003. They loved traveling around the world and often hosted farm groups from overseas to their farm.
Alice is survived by her daughter, Martha Tokarchik and husband Ron, Castle Rock, Colo.; four grandchildren, Mark Evans, Hong Kong, Laurie Evans, Overland Park, Kevin Baumgarten, Nashville, Tenn., and Jeff Baumgarten, Naperville, Ill. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Evans Jr.; son, John R. Evans; and daughter, Nancy Baumgarten.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum. Memorial service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church with the Reverends Georgia Decker and Andrew Hook presiding. Friends may call 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary.
