Obituary

Alice Rosedell Nickels Farney, 91, slipped peacefully from this life into that place especially prepared for her by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Oct. 3, 2007, at Buhler Sunshine Home.

She was born Nov. 10, 1915, near Buhler, the daughter of Urey W. and Mary V. Schroeder Nickels. She graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1933. She was raised in the Burrton, Langdon and Plevna communities, and had been a longtime Hutchinson resident. She was a McNess Spice Distributor.

She belonged to Forest Park Presbyterian Church, Kent EHU, Grandmother's Club, American Business Women, AAAHH Chapter, where she served as treasurer and was Kansas Woman of the Year, and was a volunteer at the Good Samaritan Village.

On July 23, 1944, she married Clifford W. Farney in Hutchinson. He died July 5, 1993.

Survivors include: two sons, LeRoy "Lee" Mills and wife, Marilyn, Arvada, Colo., and Jerry Farney and wife, Jo, Colorado Springs, Colo.; three daughters, Lavina Kitch and husband, Dean, Partridge, Lorna Paxton and husband, Joseph, Odessa, Mo., and Brenda Merrill and husband, Randy, Nashville, Tenn.; a sister, Dorothy Bunyan, Pratt; three sisters-in-law, Jane Nickels, Plevna, Joyce Farney, Wichita, and Wanda Witt, Claflin; a favorite aunt, Lavina Goodwin, Wyoming; 10 grandchildren, Gayland Kitch, Lynne Huddleston, Dan Mills, Keith Paxton, Jay Paxton, Sherry Wilson, T.J. Farney, Jena Shipps, Eli Farney, and Xondra Merrill, and all their families; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by seven brothers, Leo, Leonard, Earl, Clarence, Richard, Jesse and Glen Nickels; and a sister, Evelyn York.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Buhler Sunshine Meadows Retirement Center, in care of the mortuary.
