Alice Marie Hornbaker, 75, died Aug. 4, 2008, at her home, South Hutchinson.

She was born Dec. 3, 1932, in North English, Iowa, the daughter of Glen Elmer and Esther Carter Flory.

She graduated from high school as valedictorian in 1950, in Tipton, Iowa, and went to McPherson College for two years. She then taught elementary school for a year before she married, then she became a homemaker. She was the food service director at Friendship Day Care for 21 1/2 years.

She belonged to Community Church of the Brethren, Hutchinson.

On June 4, 1953, she married Roger Gilbert Hornbaker in Clarence, Iowa. He died Jan. 16, 2000.

Survivors include: sons, Larry, Wichita, and Paul and Lowell, both of Hutchinson; a daughter, Patricia McKenzie, Wichita; brother, Elmer Flory, Tipton, Iowa; sisters, Joyce Hayes, Geneseo, Phyllis Lenschow, West Branch, Iowa, and Elaine Fleenor, McPherson; and three grandchildren, Brandon and wife Jill Hornbaker, Wichita, and Jon and Matthew Hornbaker, Hutchinson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Edwin Flory, and a sister, Christina Flory Fischer.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday Aug. 9, 2008, at the Community Church of the Brethren, Hutchinson, with Judson Hornbaker, and Randy Beeghly presiding. Friends may sign the register from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Community Church of the Brethren. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Darlow.
