Obituary

Alice E. Johnson, 88, died July 4, 2013, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born Jan. 26, 1925, in Newton, to Denver O. and Hazel (Hutton) Luman.

Her mother later married Daniel P. "Doc" Smyres who helped raise Alice. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Alice was very active in various church positions and community affairs. Alice retired from Valley Federal Savings and Loan where she was assistant treasurer and vice-vice president. She was past president and seventh district director for the State of Kansas BPW, past president of American Legion Women's Auxiliary Unit #68, and a member of Altrusa.

She married William E. Johnson in Hutchinson in 1962. He died April 9, 1999. Survivors include: daughter, Karen G. LeShure of Hutchinson; stepson, Scott W. Johnson and wife Eva of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two granddaughters, Cindy of New York, NY, and Tina of Valdesta, Ga.; three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Alice was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; five brothers, Leonard, Raymond, Wilbur, Bob and Darrell Luman; two sisters, Velda Cavanaugh and Lois Buggelyn; two stepsisters, Maxine McMurray and Marie Trissler.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2013, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Reverend Jim Rhaesa officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
