It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Alice Ann (Huslig) Scheibmeir. Alice—the quintessential nurse and the devoted mother, wife, friend, and selfless caregiver—passed away on June 22, 2026, at the age of 80, after a battle with cancer. She fought it like a warrior, with grace and courage.
Alice was born in Dodge City, Kansas, on October 27, 1945, a daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Boor) Huslig. After graduating from Fowler High School, Alice went on to graduate from St. Mary of the Plains College in 1964 and earned her first nursing degree in 1966 from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing. She later earned her APRN from Wichita State University in 1979. Alice enjoyed all types of nursing in a career that spanned 46 years and even had a current nursing license despite retiring in 2012 at the age of 67.
Alice was known for her unwavering positivity and optimism—a strength rooted in her deep and steadfast Catholic faith. She never met a stranger and had a warm smile for everyone she encountered. If she wasn’t attending a sporting event, recital, or school program for one of her thirty grandchildren or great-grandchildren, you could likely find her enjoying a meal out or chatting on the phone with family or friends—two of her favorite pastimes.
Alice is survived by her husband, Larry of South Hutchinson; her children, Kerry and Cody Walters of Dodge City, Deborah and Kelly Hemphill of Pratt, Lisa Scheibmeir of Wichita, Dennis and Sheila Scheibmeir of Larned, Robert and Cecilia Scheibmeir of Minnesota, and Brian and Patty Scheibmeir of Texas; her grandchildren, Kylee, Caden, Kamryn, Ben, Kellee, Anna, Lindsey, Stewart, Isabella, Zachary, Marcella, Austin, and Travis; seventeen great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Marjorie, Clarence and Jeannette, Leona, Marilyn, Gloria and Ward, and sister-in-law Doris.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Vance; her siblings, Jerome, Herman, Paul, and Evelyn; and her godfather, Reverend Colin Boor.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2026, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 612 S. Maple, South Hutchinson. Parish Rosary will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2026, at the church. Private family burial will take place at a later date in Fowler Cemetery, Fowler. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.
In keeping with Alice’s love of flowers and butterflies, and the joy she brought to everyone around her, the family invites attendees to wear bright colors in celebration of her vibrant spirit, rather than traditional mourning attire.
In lieu of flowers, memorial are suggested to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church or Hospice, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
