BUHLER – Alma E. Benton, 101, died Nov. 10, 2016, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community, Buhler. She was born Feb. 14, 1915, in Newton, to Theodore and Pansy B. (Jones) Stryker.
Alma graduated from Newton High School in 1933. She was an owner of a magazine distribution service. Alma was a wonderful cook, enjoyed knitting, a hard worker, and a loving mother.
On Dec. 24, 1934, she married Elvin Ray Benton. He died in 1993. She is survived by: son, Michael Benton and wife Vicki of Weatherford, Texas; 13 grandchildren; numerous great and great great-grandchildren; and brothers, Ted Stryker of Houston, Texas, and Jim Stryker of San Diego, Calif. Alma was preceded in death by: her parents; sisters, Ruby, Edna, Betty, Alice; and sons, Richard Benton and Gary Benton.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14, 2016, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Jeff Slater officiating. Burial will follow at 4 p.m. in Liberal Cemetery, Liberal. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with family to receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
