Obituary

Alvin L. Coop, 89, passed away Sept. 10, 2008, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.

He was born Nov. 3, 1918, in Dudley, Mo., the son of Pearl and Ruby Allen Coop. He was a graduate of Fostoria High School.

A resident of Hutchinson since 1941, he was a mechanic and service manager at O'Mara Pontiac for 16 years, then worked as a mechanic for Davis Child for 12 years and retired from the claims department at Consolidated Rebuilders in 1980, after eight years.

He belonged to First United Methodist Church, Loyal Order of Moose 982 and was an active member of the Elmdale 50 Plus Center. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving during World War II as an airplane mechanic from 1943 to 1946.

On June 14, 1938, he married Leota Bernice Fisher in Westmoreland. She died Oct. 3, 1994.

Survivors include: daughters, Linda Parsons and husband, Dennis, Hutchinson, and Patty Kramer and husband, Barry, Lenexa; son, Larry, Overland Park; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and longtime friend and dance partner, Opal Wilson, Hutchinson.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Mark Conard presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson.
