Obituary

Alvin Ehrlich, 90, died Sept. 23, 2013, of natural causes at Mennonite Friendship Community, South Hutchinson. He was born Aug. 2, 1923, in Russell, Kan., the son of Gotfred and Ida (Strecker) Ehrlich.

Alvin was a Word War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946 as a Tech 4, where he received the World War II Victory Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon and three Bronze Service Stars, along with the Distinguished Unit Badge while serving with the 78th Infantry 45. He was a self-employed handyman and owned a tree service. Alvin was a lifetime member of the VFW Bob Campbell Post #1361.

Survivors include: a son, Steve Ehrlich and wife Jacqueline of Woodbridge, Va.; a daughter, Sherri Owston and husband Trey of Hutchinson; a brother, Lawrence Ehrlich of Russell; five grandchildren, Samuel Ehrlich, Benjamin Ehrlich and wife Becky, Tiffany Ehrlich, Harleigh Ehrlich and Joe Owston; and a great-grandson, Michael Ehrlich.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson, with Chaplain Willard Stafford presiding and military honors by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Chapel.
