Obituary

SOUTH HUTCHINSON - Andrew A. Bontrager, 98, died Oct. 16, 2007, at Hospice House.

He was born Aug. 12, 1909, in rural Haven, the son of Andrew F. and Fannie Borntrager Bontrager. He attended Yoder schools. He was a resident of the Haven and Yoder area all his life. He was a farmer, and was ordained minister at the age of 29, serving as minister at the Yoder Mennonite Church.

He formerly belonged to Yoder Mennonite Church, and currently to the South Hutchinson Mennonite Church.

On Nov. 4, 1934, he married Nora Yutzy in Hutchinson. She died Jan. 29, 1966. On July 16, 1967, he married Elizabeth Mast in Kalona, Iowa. She survives.

Other survivors include: five sons, Maynard A. and wife, Fannie Mae, South Hutchinson, Kenneth L. and wife, Mary Lou, Phoenix, Wesley J. and wife, Marilyn, Buhler, Marion R. and wife, Judy, Phoenix, and Clarence E. and wife, Andrea, Ocala, Fla.; a daughter, Dorothy Weaver and husband, Richard A., Highlands Ranch, Colo.; a brother, David A., Goshen, Ind.; two sisters, Edna Yoder, South Hutchinson, and Ida Schrock, Haven; 16 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Edward, William, Clarence and Enos; and six sisters, Barbara Chupp, Mary Yoder, Anna Yoder, Fannie Troyer, Mattie Gingerich and Amelia.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at South Hutchinson Mennonite Church, Yoder Campus, with Pastors Howard Wagler, Lyle Bontrager and Neil Bontrager presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Elliott Mortuary. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at South Hutchinson Mennonite Church, Yoder Campus, one mile north of Yoder. Burial will be in Yoder Cemetery, one mile north of Yoder.
