Obituary

Andrew (Bud) Johnson Sims, Jr. passed away surrounded by loved ones on December 23, 2025. Bud was born in Abbyville, Kansas, on April 28, 1936, to Andrew and Delphia Sims. He would always boast about being Valedictorian of the Abbyville High School class of 1954, which consisted of three students. After graduating Bud joined the Army and was stationed in Aiken, South Carolina. Bud married Joyce Gagnebin and with this marriage they had six children; Kathy Osborne (Nickerson, KS), Rick Sims (Hutchinson, KS), Terrie (Bill) Myers (Nickerson, KS), Mike Sims (Salina, KS), Rob Sims (Hutchinson, KS), Brett (Sara) Sims (Glenwood, IA).

Bud later married Mollie Parker Anderson in May 1986. They lived in Hutchinson where Bud worked for Collingwood Grain Mill. He eventually took a job for Greenway Electric as a traveling electrician with many different licenses. These travels took them to many states throughout the U.S. with their little sidekick, Dude. They would stay at RV campgrounds making many friends along the way. They also would take vacation trips that included Alaska and Canada. After retiring they moved to Sagrada Beach at Lake of the Ozarks near Lincoln, Missouri where they provided summertime fun for the family for 18 years. When not on the lake fishing, you would find Bud lending a hand to many of his neighbors in need. He was the lead in many improvements to the area including the roads. They moved to Wood Heights, Missouri, in 2015.

Bud is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gordon, and Dick Sims; sister, Helen Rose; and stepsons, Freddie and Donnie Anderson.

Survivors include wife, Mollie Sims; children, stepdaughter Kathy Twitchell, and stepson Jimmy (Lori) Anderson; brothers Jerry (Pat) Sims (Wichita, KS), Steve (Carol) Sims (Greenville, TX); sisters, Louise Skiles (Conway, AR), Audrey Seaton (Hutchinson, KS); 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Bud was a member of the Faith Methodist Church of Hutchinson, KS. Bud enjoyed pheasant hunting, golfing, fishing, but mostly he enjoyed family time with fish fries, cookouts, and holiday dinners, even if his favorite shirt says otherwise.

Bud was "a one of a kind" man and will be sadly missed by all who were fortunate to know him.

This obituary was posted to the Elliott Mortuary website on behalf of the family of Andrew Sims. Arrangements were made by Hidden Valley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs, MO.
