Anna Mae Robertson, 97, died March 17, 2016, at The Fields of Brookside, Overbrook. She was born Jan. 6, 1919, in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of Leroy and Ida (Newberry) Graham. She grew up in Tulsa, Okla., and graduated from Central High School. She attended Central College in McPherson and graduated from Central Bible Institute, Springfield, Mo., where she was class commencement speaker of 1942. It was also at CBI that she met Ray F. Robertson, whom she married Nov. 28, 1942, in Tulsa, Okla. Moving to Hutchinson in 1951, she raised her family and then began her 25-year teaching career at age 41, after completing coursework and graduating from Sterling College. Anna earned her master's degree from Wichita State University. She taught at Lincoln and Wiley Elementary Schools. Anna was a member of First Baptist Church, HARTA, AAUW, Beta Alpha Chapter of ADK, and the Women's Civic Center Club. A faithful Christian, she taught Sunday School for several years and loved the Lord, her family, neighbors and friends. In retirement, she traveled to every major league baseball stadium, attended the College World Series for years, and countless HCC athletic contests, prior to her husband's death. Anna continued to travel to visit her grandchildren and great grandchildren as her health allowed. She enjoyed the Hutchinson Symphony and Community Concerts, playing board/card games and dominoes. Anna was a longtime member of the YMCA, where she attended daily water exercise classes for more than 25 years. She moved from Hutchinson in 2011 to be closer to her children. Favorite activities, after she moved, were balloon volleyball and "music" day where she still knew every word of every hymn. She was the last of her generation in the Graham and Robertson families.
