NICKERSON - Anna May Schardein, 96, died Feb. 4, 2012, at Mille Lacs Health Systems, Onamia, Minn.

She was born in Nickerson, Feb. 18, 1915, the daughter of Solomon Otto and Cora Belle Hawver Roth.

She was a longtime Nickerson resident, moving to Hutchinson in 2001, then to Wahkon, Minn. in 2007. Anna graduated from Nickerson High School, worked on the family farm, was a school board member at Centennial and Union 5 schools and was a bookkeeper in the office at Wiley's Department Store. She was a member of Salem Community Church of the Brethren and Myrtle Rebekah Lodge #28.

On June 1, 1935, she married Ted R. Schardein at Marion. He died Nov. 6, 2002.

She is survived by: her son, Max and wife Judy of Shell Knob, Mo.; daughter, Cindy and husband Jim Maciazka of Wahkon, Minn.; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Joe; four brothers, Clarence, Claude, Cecil and Earl Roth; and a sister, Evelyn Stauffer.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor George D. Hinton officiating. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the church, in care of the mortuary.
