Arlie G. Biles, 92, died Sunday in Hutchinson. He was born May 12, 1919, in El Dorado, the son of Murray and Walsie Akin Biles.
He was a 1937 graduate of El Dorado High School, a 1939 graduate of Salt City Business College, an Army veteran of World War II, a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Lions Club, American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68, VFW Bob Campbell Post #1361, and had 38 years of public service, retiring in 1979 from the Social Security Administration Office as District Manager, Wichita.
On April 25, 1942, he married Marie Windhorst in Salina. She died Dec. 9, 2009.
Survivors include: their children and spouses, Karen Biles, Hutchinson, Bill and Jane, Pratt, Jan and Randy Steinert, Wichita, Jo and John Wolters, Manhattan; a brother, Bob; a sister, Hazel Bugler, both of Wichita; four grandchildren, Kevin Biles, Kathryn and Logan McAllister, Russ Wolters and Megan Wolters, and a great-granddaughter, Lakyn Jane McAllister. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles; brothers, Oren, Orville, Alfred, Ralph and Bill; sisters, Helen Burbank, Evelyn Long, Iva Palmer and Alice Biles.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 407 East 12th Ave., Hutchinson, with Pastor John Pool officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Glasco Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501. Memorial gifts may be made to the church, in care of the mortuary.
