Obituary

SOUTH HUTCHINSON - Arlie Irene (Taylor) Hiebert, 89, died April 21, 2010, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.

She was born May 29, 1920, in Jetmore, Hodgeman County, Kan., the daughter of John Henry and Eva Pearl Moon Taylor.

She moved to Hutchinson in 1933 and graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1938.

Arlie was a member of South Hutchinson Christian Church and a charter member and officer in the TECK (Tatting, Embroidery, Crocheting, Knitting) Club, was a bingo player, and officer in the Poplar Study Club, Bible Class teacher, held an office in the Ruth's Women's Fellowship Circle, and was a PTA officer at Grandview and South Hutchinson, and was also a Girl Scout Leader. She was a homemaker, friend to many and loved to visit with all.

On May 19, 1939, she married Bernard "Ben" Hiebert in Hutchinson at the County Courthouse with Judge Leighs. They moved to South Hutchinson in 1951 and then to the farm in 1961 and finally to their new home on West Blanchard in 1974. He died at home on Sept. 7, 1999.

She happily raised seven children; Betty Greever and husband Richard of Hutchinson, Ardith May of Grand Island, Neb., Paul Hiebert and wife Linda of Hutchinson, Vera Ummel and husband Jerry of South Hutchinson, Ralph Hiebert and wife Toni of Hutchinson, Glennys Tedder and husband Timothy of Hutchinson and Phyllis Balzer and husband Tom of South Hutchinson. She is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Phyllis Merkel of Wichita and Shirley Taylor of Clarkston, Wash. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law, Wayne May, two grandchildren, a great-grandson, four sisters, Marie Lowe, Pauline Anderson, Esther Wambsganss, Sally Piland, and two brothers, John Henry Taylor and Walter Ralph Taylor.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 24, 2010, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Jeff Arnold presiding. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary Chapel.
