Obituary

Arthella Lee Hammar, 83, died on August 21, 2026, at her home in Hutchinson. She was born March 21, 1943, in Hutchinson, to Lucian Virgil and Alice Karr (Brown) Hammar.

Arthella was a 1961 graduate of Haven High School. She graduated from Emporia State Teachers College in 1965 and earned her master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Oklahoma in 1975. Arthella worked for over 25 years in Scott City at the local high school as the librarian. In her retirement she moved to Hutchinson and was a Teacher’s Assistant for Nickerson School District (USD 309). She was an avid reader and loved listening to gospel music and hymns. Arthella was a member of Bethany Church of the Nazarene, Hutchinson, where she was the first woman on the Board of Trustees for the church, and was currently In the Bridge Builder’s Bible Study Class.

Arthella is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, sister, Ardith Liebst; brothers, Terry, Larry, and Kenneth Hammar.

Funeral service will be announced at a later date. Friends may sign her book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Bethany Church of the Nazarene, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
