Arthur L. "Short" White, 78, died Oct. 12, 2007, at Deseret, Hutchinson.
He was born Jan. 10, 1929, in Salem, Ill., the son of James Albert and Harriett Morrison White. He graduated in 1947, from Salem (Ill.) High School. A resident of Hutchinson since 1964, moving from Illinois, he worked for Illinois Central, then Santa Fe, with 31 years of service, retiring in 1984 as a rail detector car operator.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
On Nov. 29, 1950, he married Betty Jane Wantland in Salem, Ill. She died July 17, 2006.
Survivors include: three sons, Rick, Larry and Chloie Blair White, and Don and Faye, all of Hutchinson; a brother, Harold, Salem, Ill.; a sister, Norma Lucas, Salem, Ill.; five grandchildren, Scott White and Jennifer, North Platte, Neb., Leon White and Jill, Marty White and Mellisa, Melissa Ragland, Julia Garcia and David Hopkins, all of Hutchinson; and eight great-grandchildren, Allison White, Melinna and Alonna Acevedo, Evin and Ryan Ragland, Ofelia and Nuela Garcia, and Jack Hopkins.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ivan "Van" White; and a sister, Dorothy Pauley.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Gary Getting presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, with military graveside rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Diabetes Association, in care of the funeral home.
