Avriel Evelyn "Ace" Keefer, 102, died May 25, 2007, at Wesley Towers Thorne Care Center.
She was born Oct. 17, 1904, in Claflin, the daughter of James Phillip and Rose Anna Smearer Starks. She graduated from Claflin High School in 1922, attended Kansas Wesleyan University, Salina, Cranston School of Music, Kansas City, Mo., and Waterman School of Music, Los Angeles. A resident of Hutchinson from 1938 to 1967, moving to Sun City, Ariz., in October 1967, and moving back to Hutchinson in May 1990, she was a retired legal secretary.
She belonged to the First Congregational Church, was a 60-plus-year member of the Silver Leaf Chapter No. 464 Order of the Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary Lysle Rishel Post No. 68, a 50-plus-year member of the Women's International Bowling Congress, Hutchinson Bowling Hall of Fame, 40-plus-year member of both the Carey Park Golf Course and Prairie Dunes Country Cub, and the Sun City Country Club, Sun City, Ariz.
She was married to Dr. E.C. Elfert from 1940 to 1957. She married Arvid Danielson of Lindsborg in 1964. He died in 1965. In June 1970, she married Kenneth Neal Keefer in Sun City, Ariz. He died Nov. 20, 1979.
Survivors include: several nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by a brother, John Wesley Starks, and three sisters, Margaret Wickendoll, Violet Corcoran and Ella Willis.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wesley Towers Hester Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Robert B. Brooks presiding. Friends may sign the register from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
Memorials may be sent to the Wesley Towers Good Samaritan Fund, or the First Congregational Church, both in care of the funeral home.
