Obituary

Barbara E. Mettlen, 93, died May 7, 2016, at Via Christi-St. Francis in Wichita. She was born Oct. 26, 1922, in Hutchinson, to Harmer and Lola (January) Harter.

Barbara graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1940. She owned Mettlens, Inc. working as a public accountant, for almost 30 years, along with her husband. Barbara was a member of Park Place Christian Church and Altrusa, and enjoyed bowling, golfing, and playing gin rummy at the American Legion. She was also a die-hard Kansas City Royals fan and Kansas University Jayhawk fan.

On Jan. 26, 1943, she married Louis E. "Gene" Mettlen. He died May 2, 1986. Survivors include: daughter, Blythe Hinton and husband George of Nickerson; son, Randy E. Mettlen and wife Georgia of Salina; grandchildren, Sarah E. Mullinix of Topeka, Daniel E. Brinkley and wife Sheri of Dodge City; step granddaughter, Christina Maddy and husband Rob of Salina; 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Arlene Harter of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and brother-in-law, Robert Mettlen, PhD. and wife Judith of Austin, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Hap Harter.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at Park Place Christian Church, 2600 N. Adams, Hutchinson, with Pastors David Dubovich and George Hinton officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be made to Park Place Christian Church (designated for hearing amplifiers) or Salem Community Church (designated for the furnace fund), in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
