Barbara J. Montgomery's Obituary
Barbara Jean Montgomery, 85, died Aug. 2, 2007, at Wesley Towers Hester Care Center.
She was born May 16, 1922, in Sterling, the daughter of Robert LeRoy and Ruth Jane Russell Ball. She graduated from high school in 1940 in Indianapolis, Ind., and received her teaching certificate from Sterling College. A resident of Phoenix for 27 years, moving to Hutchinson in February 2003, she worked in retail sales at Sears Roebuck, retired from Montgomery Ward, and taught in a one-room schoolhouse in rural western Kansas.
She belonged to Emanuel Lutheran Church.
On Jan. 12, 1946, she married William Joseph "Bill" Montgomery in Garden City. He survives.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Mary Ball and husband, Roger, Hutchinson, and Myrna Vardeman and husband, Kenneth, Overland Park; a brother, Robert R. Ball, Austin, Texas; and a grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Marian Ball Meyer; and a grandson.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Emanuel Lutheran Church, with Pastor Loren Mai presiding. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Leavenworth National VA Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association or Emanuel Lutheran Church, both in care of the funeral home.
