Barbara Jeanne Piper, Hutchinson, passed away Aug. 2, 2009, after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease.
She was born Nov. 30, 1927, in Wichita, the daughter of Victor L. and Mildred Rosberg Johnson.
She graduated from Wichita East High School in 1945 and spent her freshman year of college at Mills College in Oakland, Calif. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in Child Psychology from the University of Kansas in 1949.
She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. Barbara had a long career in real estate sales was an avid golfer, winning the Prairie Dunes Women's Championship in 1977.
Barbara was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, an active member of P.E.O., Chapter BY, and a longtime supporter of the Hutchinson Library and the Hutchinson Art Association.
Barbara married Richard H. "Dick" Piper on Aug. 14, 1948, in Wichita. He died Sept. 15, 2001.
Survivors include: a son, Scott Piper, Wichita; and a daughter, Kristen Piper, Hutchinson. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Victor L. Johnson II.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2009, at the First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary.
