Barry L. Law, 54, died Sept. 2, 2015, at his home in Hutchinson. He was born on Nov. 30, 1960, in Hutchinson, the son of Glenn and Elsie (Cokeley) Law, and was as "ornery as the dickens," according to his mother.
His ornery streak never withered as many of his Nickerson High School friends would tell you. After graduation in 1979, he went on to earn degrees from Hutchinson Community College and Friends University and met the love of his life, Melissa Chaney. She fell in love with his boisterous personality and laughter, which could light up a room.
They were blissfully married on May 22, 1982, in Hutchinson, and enjoyed 33 years of marriage. Barry worked at Krause, and then was a territory manager for Central Plains and Steel. Anyone who met Barry instantly felt a connection to him. He never judged a soul and his acceptance of anyone and everyone is a trait that shines on through his son and daughter. Barry could most often be found watching his Jayhawks play, cooking up a delicious meal or playing his guitar.
He is survived by: his wife, Melissa; children, Alex Law (Molly) and Katie Law Twist (Phillip); and granddaughter, Lucy Law, all of Lawrence; his mother, Elsie Law of Hutchinson; brothers, Tony Law (Linda) of Hutchinson, and Kelly Law (Billie Jo) of Lyndon; his in-laws, Bert and Marilyn Chaney, Cindy Proett, Doug Proett, all of Hutchinson, and Doug Chaney (Connie) of Jetmore; and his beloved nieces and nephews, Grace Proett, Jack Proett, Abbey Chaney, Grant Chaney, Candice Chaney, Stacey Holsinger (Rob), Stephanie Glazier (Jesse), Derek Law (Megan), Bart Law (Ramon), and Beth Baum (Scott). He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Law.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8 2015, at First Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Sherman, Hutchinson. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, all at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
The family requests friends wear crimson and blue or Jayhawk attire to the visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Grandchildren's Education Fund, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson KS 67501. His family and community meant more to him than anything. He lived his life to the fullest and will be dearly missed.
