Barton Ray "Bart" Pennick, 81, died Jan. 15, 2013, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.
He was born Aug. 12, 1931, in Ralston, Okla., to Jay W. and Mildred M. (Trimm) Pennick.
Bart graduated in 1949 from Fairfax High School, Fairfax, Okla. A United States Navy veteran, he was one of the few atomic veterans who served in the Korean War. He married Wilma Jean Van Riper on Oct. 21, 1951, in Hutchinson. Bart was a member of Mitchell Chapel, United Methodist Church and American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68. He was a building engineer for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1986.
Survivors include: his wife, Wilma Jean Pennick of South Hutchinson; son, Jeff Pennick and wife Brenda; daughter, Tracy Schlickau and husband Bruce; two grandchildren, Greg and Sara Schlickau, all of Hutchinson; two brothers, A.J. and Reynold "Rennie" Pennick and wife Edie.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at Elliott Chapel with Pastor Teresa Wynn officiating. Inurnment will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
