Obituary

Benjamin F. "Red" Whitmore Jr., 95, died June 7, 2016, at his home in Hutchinson. He was born Sept. 10, 1920, in Howard, to Benjamin F. and Blanche L. (Black) Whitmore.

Ben proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945. He was a carpenter for many contractors for over 50 years and was also a night watchman for Krause Plow and Dillons. Ben was a member and a church host at First United Methodist Church until he retired at the age of 95.

On July 31, 1949, he married Betty Mae Troyer in Haven. She survives. Other survivors include: daughter, Nina Goodrick (Terry Nitschke), Oak Harbor, Ohio; sons, Lamont Whitmore (Cindy), Inman, Ricky Whitmore (Daisy), Hutchinson, Timothy Whitmore (Amy), Santa Ana, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lettie Eastin, El Dorado. He was preceded in death by: a brother, Harold Whitmore, and sisters Dortha Madden, Vera Epp and Carol Hutchison.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 13, 2016, at First United Methodist Church, 101 E. First, with Pastor Jeff Slater presiding. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with the family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
