Obituary

Bernard 'Bernie' Koch, Jr., 65, of Hutchinson, died September 20, 2019, at The University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, KS. He was born January 26, 1954, in Hutchinson, to Bernard Eugene and Marjorie Ann (Shelton) Koch, Sr.

Bernie graduated from Partridge High School. He was a baker at the Rainbow Bakery for 30 years and a water meter reader for the City of Hutchinson. In addition to his fulltime work, he worked as a basketball official and started a lawn service business. Bernie was a member of the Bakers' Local Union, an avid Kansas City Royals fan, and enjoyed classic cars and Harley-Davidson motorcycles. His greatest source of enjoyment was being with his grandsons and attending their various activities.

On July 14, 1973, he married Debora Crane at St. Teresa Catholic Church, in Hutchinson. They shared over 46 years of marriage.

He is survived by: wife, Debora Koch; children, Brian Koch, Jennifer (Don) McKenna, and Tim Koch; grandsons, Bishop McKenna, Orion McKenna, and Kage McKenna; great-granddaughters, Addie Trower and Atreya McKenna, all of Hutchinson; brothers, John (Doreen) Koch and Doug Koch; sisters, Kammie (Kevin) Wendler and Dana Brawner; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Bernie was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday, September 27, 2019, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, with Pastor Jerry Stokely officiating. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, and 9 a.m. until service time on Friday at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Hospice and HomeCare of Reno County or Cause for Paws, Inc., in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
