Obituary

Bernese E. Bookless, 99, died Nov. 5, 2014, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born June 6, 1915, in Nickerson, to Lawrence E. and Irene E. (Hatfield) Hoffman.

Bernese graduated from Reno County High School in 1932. She was a member of New Life Christian Church, Phi Beta Psi Social Sorority for over 50 years, and worked in the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center gift shop. On June 6, 1932, she married George Wiley Bookless in Hutchinson. He died July 2, 1985. Bernese is survived by: son, Max Bookless of Hutchinson; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: her parents; brothers, Keith, Cecil, Paul, Floyd "Jerry" and Lawrence "Ed" Hoffman; sister, Ruth Brink; son, Rex Bookless; daughter-in-law, Billie Bookless; infant grandson, Corky Bookless; and great-granddaughter, Rebecca West.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, 2014, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Reverend Melvin Walton officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Reno County, New Life Christian Church or American Cancer Society, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
