Obituary

Bertha E. Wipf, 104, died Dec. 20, 2007, at Thorne Care Center.

She was born March 5, 1903, in rural Reno County, the daughter of Adam and Elizabeth Keller Wipf. A resident of Hutchinson, formerly of Sterling, she had worked as an operator for Sterling Telephone Company for 28 years, and then worked in the billing department for Mid Kansas Telephone for 8 years.

She belonged to the First United Methodist Church, where she was in the Wesley Weds Sunday School Class, Hutchinson, was a life member of the Independent Telephone Pioneer Association, the Reno and Rice County Historical Societies, and the Sterling Silver Threads.

Survivors include: several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Herman and Arthur, and seven sisters, Lena Lockamy, Ada Gransbury, Rosa Gransbury, Hilda Mathis, Emma McRevey, Irene Wipf and Olga Wipf.

Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Mark Conard presiding. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to service time Saturday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Penwell Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum.
