INMAN - Bertie E. Swepston, 77, died June 27, 2012, at Buhler Sunshine Home. She was born Sept. 10, 1934, in Welling, Okla., the daughter of Charles Edgar and Alice May (Latty) Vanderpool.

Bertie graduated from Tahlequah High School, Tahlequah, Okla. She was an educational secretary, working for Winans, Lincoln and Morgan Schools in Hutchinson. Bertie was a charter member of Westbrook Baptist Church and later attended Victorious Life Church.

On Sept. 1, 1951, she married Harold Eugene Swepston in Tahlequah, Okla. He died Oct. 9, 2005.

Survivors include: four children, Kevin Duane Swepston and wife Becky of Iola, Kan., Harold Kent Swepston and wife Stephanie of Glenpool, Okla., Karen Lea Brown and husband John of Hutchinson, Kathy Sue McEwan and husband Mike of Moran, Kan.; two sisters, Sue Swepston and husband Homer of Tulsa, Okla. and Maxine Agee of Stillwater, Okla.; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: two sisters, Elsie Christie and Bennie Drake; and a brother, Eugene Vanderpool.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2012, at Elliott Mortuary with Reverends James Francis and Nathan Spencer presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, with family to receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson.
