Betty Carol Childs, 83, of Sterling, died Thursday, December 7, 2017, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born May 19, 1934, in Alma, Oklahoma, the daughter of James Dewey and Flossie Fae (Pierce) Jennings. Betty graduated from Sylvia High School in 1952. She worked at the Sterling Bulletin from 1963-2014, retiring as editor. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Hutchinson.

On December 20, 1952, Betty married Harold Duane Childs in Sylvia. He survives.

Other survivors include: son, Kevin Childs and wife Sharon of Hutchinson; daughter, Rhonda Carlson and husband Richard of Wichita; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: son, Randall Kent Childs; her parents, J.D. and Flossie Jennings; brother, James Edward Jennings; sister, Linda Kay (Jennings) Yost.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at First Church of the Nazarene, 4290 N. Monroe, Hutchinson, with Pastor Kent Pedersen officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
