Betty Jean Kempton, 79, died March 26, 2008, at Topeka Westwood Manor, Topeka.
She was born April 11, 1928, in Sabetha, the daughter of Burt and Mary Whitman Kistner. She attended schools in Hiawatha and graduated from Hiawatha High School. A resident of Topeka since 1995, formerly of Hutchinson and Hiawatha, she was a homemaker and previously worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Hiawatha.
She belonged to Baptist Church, Hutchinson. She loved to bake, garden, and make quilts and over the years shared her talents with many of her friends and neighbors.
On May 24, 1946, she married James Kempton in Hiawatha. He died June 17, 1990.
Survivors include: a son, J.D. Kempton, Topeka.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Stanley Lee Kempton.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with Pastor Tim Ault-Duell presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. A private committal service will take place in Fairlawn Burial Park.
