Betty Krehbiel, born December 28, 1930, to Anne and Harvey Waltner in Pretty Prairie, Kansas. She died August 13, 2026, at Reno County Hospice House.

Betty Graduated from Pretty Prairie High School and attended Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas.

Betty married Joe Krehbiel on March 23, 1951. They operated a dairy and wheat farm in the Pretty Prairie, Kansas, community and were active in the First Mennonite Church for 45 years. After retirement, they made their home in Hutchinson where they were active in Journey Church for over 20 years. Joe and Betty were married for 63 years.

Betty was a talented musician. She sang in church groups and with an ensemble from Pretty Prairie that traveled across several states. Betty also played piano until her 95th year. She was well-known as a wonderful cook and baker. Betty and Joe entertained routinely in their home and shared their table with anyone invited or dropping in.

Betty was especially dear to all her grandchildren. They carry a wealth of memories of adventures on the farm, card games, board games, snacks, treats, then dinner followed by a fabulous dessert. Granny and Papa were in the bleachers for the grand kids for as many football, basketball, and volleyball games as physically possible.

Betty had a close and present faith in God the Father and Jesus Christ. That faith has secured her spiritual eternity.

She was preceded in death by her: husband, Joe; parents, Anne and Harvey Waltner; brothers, Gene and Alan Waltner; sister-in-law, Lila Waltner; and son-in-law, Jim Hunt.

Betty is survived by: daughter, Kathy Hunt of Oklahoma City; sons, Kirby (Mary) Krehbiel and Steve (Alice) Krehbiel, all of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Joe Hunt, Spencer (Tiffany) Krehbiel, Allison (Kelyn) Schellenberg, Diane Krehbiel, Zachary (Sophie) Krehbiel, Ben (Azzia) Krehbiel; six great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Pat Waltner; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family extends their gratitude to the staff in Memory Care at Legend of Hutchinson and Hospice House. We appreciate the care and kindness Betty received while a resident at Legend and during her final days at Hospice House of Reno County.

Memorial Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, with Rick Anderson officiating. Friends may sign her book at 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Monday; and 1 to 5 pm. Sunday, at Elliott Mortuary.
