Betty Jean Lauver passed away July 8, 2008, at Hospice House.
She was born Betty Jean Harrison on April 10, 1926, in South Hutchinson, Kansas, to Samuel Worth Harrison and Helen Matilda Hoag. She was a graduate of Hutchinson High School, where she met Norman Dee Lauver. They were married July 20, 1943.
For 26 years, she was a school dietitian and Head Cook for the Union Valley School and enjoyed cooking for others the rest of her life.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed membership in Circle 3. Other joys of her life were camping with family and friends in the Serendipity Sam's RV Club and sharing tea parties with the Serendipity Mad Hatters Red Hat Ladies. She was an active member and past president of Phi Beta Psi, a philanthropic organization devoted to raising money for cancer research.
She is survived by her husband, Norman Lauver, Hutchinson; a son, Danny and his wife, Jan, Kansas City, Missouri; sister, Constance and her husband, Robert Blyth, Idaho Falls, Idaho; a son-in-law, Don Speer, Wichita, Kansas; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Bartholomew (Don), Wichita, Kansas, Ruth Goodpasture (Russell), Tulsa, Oklahoma, Patricia Lauver, (Bill deceased), Wichita, Kansas; a brother-in-law, Bill Smith of Hutchinson; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one soon-to-be great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Rachel Diane Speer, and sister Maxine Smith.
Funeral will be at the Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main Street, Hutchinson, Kansas, at 10 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2008, with the Rev. Mark Conard presiding. Friends may call from 9:00 to 9:00 Thursday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. Burial will be at Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Phi Beta Psi Sorority or Hospice House of Reno County.
