Betty Mezger, 83, of Hutchinson, KS., passed away peacefully on Weds., January 2, 2008, due to complications from Alzheimer's disease at The Sweet Life of Rosehill, Shawnee, KS.
She was born October 11, 1924 near Liberal, KS., the third child of Nathan and Mary Jane Redfern Jones. She graduated from Preston High School in May 1942. During WWII, she took her brother's place on the family farm until his return from Army service. She later moved to Hutchinson where she graduated from Adela Hale Business College. She married Ralph E. Mezger on October 16, 1952. He passed away June 19, 1980.
She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Randy Urban and her grandchildren, Ryan and Kaitlyn Urban of Louisburg, KS. She is survived by her beloved sister, Thelma Forwalder, of South Hutchinson, and her children, Richard Forwalder of Andover, KS., and James Forwalder and wife Betty, of Bonner Springs, KS. Betty is also survived by many brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews from her late husband's family. She was preceded in passing by her parents and her brother, Wilbur Jones.
Services will be Monday, January 7, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at Elliott Chapel in Hutchinson with Rev. Dee Ann Mezger presiding. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 9 to 9 Sunday at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will be at Cairo Cemetery in Pratt County.
