Betty Lee Shook, 86, died March 15, 2008, at Hutchinson Hospital, E.R.
She was born Feb. 27, 1922, in Kirksville, Mo., the daughter of Maurice LaVern and Alta Lee Wright Wait. She graduated in 1940, in Kirksville, Mo., and in 1943, she graduated from St. Mary School of Nursing, Quincy, Ill. A longtime Hutchinson resident, she was a registered nurse with Grace Hospital, Hutchinson Hospital and for 25 years with U.S.D. 308, retiring in 1992.
She belonged to Trinity United Methodist Church. She was the past president and a 50-plus year member of the EK Chapter of PEO, was a former member of the Kansas State Nurses Association, and the Kansas State School Nurses Organization. She was a volunteer at the Hutchinson Area Student Health Clinic.
Survivors include: sons, Randy R. Shook and wife Denice, Denver, and Roger M. Shook and wife Ellen, Lakewood, Colo.; and four grandchildren, Kristy Shook, Laurie Dickinson and husband Jeff, Travis Shook, and Courtney Shook, all of Colorado.
She was preceded in death by a brother James O. Wait.
Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday March 19, 2008, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Pat Ault-Duell presiding. Friends may sign the register from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Cremation has taken place. A private family inurnment will be held.
