Obituary

Betty Dee Street, 82, of Sunshine Home, Buhler, Kan., died July 12, 2012, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Born in 1930 in McPherson, Kan., to Dave and Rena Hites, Betty was raised in a musical household.
She played the piano, violin, and the trombone. Upon graduating from St. John High School in 1948, she continued her study of music at Bethany Nazarene College, Bethany, Okla. Betty played the organ and coordinated music in the Nazarene Church in Liberty, Mo., during the years of 1970-1990. As a soloist, vocal trio member and choir director she dedicated her talents to the services, in the First Church of the Nazarene of Hutchinson, Kan. during the years of 1955-1970.

In 1949, she married her husband of 63 years, William L. Street of Bethany, Okla. After a 50th anniversary celebration in Hutchinson, Betty and Bill moved back to Hutchinson, Kan., in 2000, after living for 30 years in Liberty, Mo. In 2008, Betty was moved to Sunshine Memory Care in Buhler. She is survived by her sister, Jean Lilley; her husband, Bill Street; and four daughters, Darene Street of Lenexa, Kan., Betty Anne Daniecki of Princeton, NJ, Willene Decker of Sterling, Kan., and Elisa Bradshaw of Grandview, Mo. She also leaves a legacy of 11 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Bones Nay presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Memorials may be made to the Memory Care Unit at Buhler Sunshine Home, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
