Obituary

Betty June (Donaghey Guthrie) Wuthnow went home to be with her Lord on Thursday May 14, 2009, after her battle with cancer.

She was born in Allen, Oklahoma, June 16, 1932, to birth parents, Charles Bennett Donaghey, Sr., and Oma Elviney Shumake Donaghey and later adopted by Pauline Guthrie who have all preceded her in death.

Over the years of marriage, Arvid and Betty lived in Kansas, Ohio, Arkansas and Indiana, always being an active part of a local church and teaching a Sunday School class. She was a member of the Corner Stone Baptist Church in Hutchinson and was always an encouragement and supporter of the members there. Betty graduated from Arlington, KS High School in 1951, and was a telephone operator with Southwestern Bell for many years beginning at a very young age. Over the years she has participated in the Busy Beaver's EHU and the Court Appointed Special Advocate Citizens Review Board. She was a big supporter of her grandson Andrew Wuthnow and the Special Olympics.

Betty married her sweetheart Arvid V. Wuthnow on July 18, 1952, in Albuquerque, N.M. He preceded her in death on Jan. 25, 2006.

Survivors include: sons, Ardy J. and wife Marie, Hutchinson, and Arlis J. and wife Shannon, Newton; daughters, Millie Braun and husband Dennis, Ohio, Arvida J. Maynus, Indiana, and Analeis J. Pruitt and husband Bill, Lawrence; sisters, Addie Moss and husband Ralph, Texas, and Bertie Hughs and husband Larry, Hutchinson; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucretia and Wanda, two brothers, Lee and Charles and a son-in-law, David Maynus, Sr.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Corner Stone Baptist Church, Hutchinson, with Pastor Larry Wedel and Arlis J. Wuthnow presiding. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Baptist Cemetery District No. 4, Hope. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday.

Memorials may be sent to the Reno County Hawks Special Olympics or the Mission Fund of her church, both in care of the mortuary.

Betty accepted the Lord as her personal Savior as a young girl and always desired to follow the Lord wherever He led her. She was a true inspiration to all who met her and loved her. She will be greatly missed by all and especially by her children and grandchildren. We will see you again just inside the Eastern Gate!
