Bettye Jean Miller, 86, died Thursday, June 5, 2014. She was born Aug. 28, 1927, in Coldwater, the daughter of Harry and Martha Kindsvater Howland.
She was a 1946 graduate of Coldwater High School, a life member of V.F.W. Bob Campbell Post #1361, Ladies Auxiliary. Bettye had been a gardener for Benton's Greenhouse, retiring in 1987. On July 26, 1946, she married Walter M. Miller in Dodge City. He died Sept. 22, 1984. She is survived by: her children and their spouses, Sandra and Bill Burton of Dodge City, Jacqulyn Konrade of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Walter and Karen Miller of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Linda Chaffin of Hutchinson; two brothers, Dean and Leon Howland; 14 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 29 great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Dale and Harold and a son-in-law, Jerry Chaffin.
Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 9, 2014, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Darin Miller presiding. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.
