Beulah Z. Harkness, 98, of Hutchinson, died September 13, 2024, at Waldron Place Assisted Living. She was born August 1, 1926, in Hutchinson, to James Oliver and Hester Annie (Lisman) Hess.

Beulah graduated from Sylvia High School. She worked at JC Penney and Reno County Treasurer's Office before she retired. Beulah was a member of Northminster (now New Covenant) Presbyterian Church.

On May 24, 1945, she married Melvin W. Harkness, in Hutchinson. He died February 15, 1994.

Beulah is survived by: her grandson, Travis Webster of Oklahoma; special nieces, Diane Lacy-Trostle of McPherson, Deena Percival of Grand Junction, CO, Linda Slusser of Kansas City, MO, Bonnie Ruebke of Hutchinson, Cheryl Cloverdale of Ashland; and many extended family members.

Beulah was preceded in death by: her parents; daughter, Sondra Younkin; son-in-law, Art Younkin; sisters, Ruth Beam, Ruby Oswalt, Mary Witt, Beatrice Coverdale, Ferne Murphy, Grace Sutton; brothers, Carl H. Hess, James Hess, and William C. Hess.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Sylvia Cemetery, 31918 Longview Rd., Sylvia.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary.
