Bob Helms, 66, went to be with the Lord on Oct. 8, 2006, passing away at the Hospice House.
He was born Jan. 14, 1940, in Anthony, the son of Callie Jack and Stella Mae Cha- sey Helms. A 1958 graduate of Anthony High School, he was a 43-year employee with IBM, retiring in 2005. Twenty-five of those years were in Dallas.
He belonged to Westside Baptist Church and was a volunteer at the Delos V. Smith Senior Center. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1958, stationed aboard the USS Yorktown in San Diego. He maintained aircraft and flew as an aircraft member.
On Jan. 12, 1990, he married Nancy Bruce Sevier in Hutchinson. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Robert Helms Jr. and wife, Brenda, Edmond, Okla., and Scotty Sevier and wife, Laura, Argonia; two daughters, Misti Westergaard and husband, James, Josephine, Texas, and Kim Purcell and husband, Don, Wichita; nine grandchildren, Brandon and Grant Purcell, Abbi Sevier, Shane and Jesse Page, Chris and Christina Westergaard, and Dawson and Rachel Helms; a great-grandchild, Alanna Purcell; and two sisters, Lucille Rishell, Boise, Idaho, and Margie Croft, Anthony.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Valeria Davis; and four brothers, Billy, Jack, Levi and Richard.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson. Graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Argonia Cemetery, with Pastor Tim Adrian presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the family receiving friends following the funeral service Tuesday morning at Elliott Mortuary.
