Bobbie Jo Cheely, 66, died Nov. 3, 2010, at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson.
She was born July 11, 1944, in Long Beach, California, the daughter of George W. Harrell Jr. and Hazel Langford Harrell.
Bobbie Jo graduated from Blackstone High School, Blackstone, Virginia in 1963 and was Miss Nottoway County that same year. She, together with former husband Ernie Cheely of San Angelo, Texas, formed the dynamic breeding operation of AKC show dogs, the Hounds of Cheely producing more than 30 Russian Wolfhound Champions including two Best In Show winners. They were well known around the Midwest for their superb dogs. Bobbie served in the Hutchinson Kennel Club in many capacities as well as serving as an AKC delegate for many years. The TUFF kennel name is highly respected in Borzoi of today and will live in the history of the breed. She retired after 20 years from Kwik Shop.
Survivors include: a son, Blake Cheely and wife Cindy, Anchorage, Alaska; a daughter, Marquette (Cheely) Beltz and husband Larry, South Hutchinson; four granddaughters, Caity, Kristen, Kendall and Kelsie; a sister, Vickie Ann Haywood, Wagram, North Carolina; aunt, Mary Victoria Carr, Houston, Texas; and a nephew, Brandon Haywood, Gulf Breeze, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Henry Hartman presiding. Friends may sign the book 9 a.m. 9 p.m. today and Monday at the funeral home. Cremation has taken place.
