Brenda S. 'BJ' Johnson, 62, of Nickerson, died September 22, 2011, at Hospice House, in Hutchinson.

She was born December 17, 1948, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Virgil and Fern Krauter Nelson.

She graduated from Nickerson High School in 1966. She later graduated from Sidney's Hairdressing College. Brenda lived in Great Bend for 20 years where she taught cosmetology at Barton County Community College, and later owned and operated Hair Design Etc., in Hutchinson. She was a member of the Salem Community Church at Nickerson.

Brenda married Ray E. Johnson on March 13, 1983, at Nickerson. He died October 26, 2006.

Survivors include: two daughters, Jenny Hughes and her husband Sean, Hutchinson, and their sons, Dakota and Wyatt Hughes, and Shawn Maddox and her husband Steve, Edmond, Oklahoma, and their sons, Hayes, Mitch, and Trace Maddox; her father, Virgil Nelson, Sterling; a sister, Kathy Theede and her husband Roger, Nickerson. She was preceded in death by her mother.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 26, 2011, at Salem Community Church near Nickerson. Burial will be in Salem Community Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday 1-9 and Sunday 9-9 at Elliott Mortuary.
