Brenda Jo (Gill) Marshall, 65, died July 16, 2026, at Hospice House, Hutchinson, KS after a long battle with Appendiceal Cancer. She was born January 30, 1961, in Stafford, KS to Dwain and Phyliss Arlene (Willinger) Gill.
Brenda grew up on the family farm at Sylvia. KS. She graduated from Fairfield High School in 1979, Hutchinson Community College, and received her bachelor’s degree from University of Kansas in 1983. While working for SRS (currently DCF- Department for Children and Families) Brenda worked in the Jobs Preparations Program that taught clients how to succeed in life. This included learning how to interview, resume writing, how to dress for success and other skills for entering the workforce. She still receives notes and cards from her former clients on how she touched their lives.
Brenda had a passion for helping others and was a community volunteer for over 30 years. Whether helping at school, when her son and daughter were little, to volunteering in the community whenever called upon to Trinity United Methodist Church, Brenda’s infectious laugh, smile and go-get them attitude could make any task fun. She never knew a stranger and once you met Brenda, you would never forget her. Above all, Brenda’s family was her world. “Nana” cherished her three grandchildren.
Despite the health challenges Brenda faced over the past year, she never lost her faith. She remained positive, never wanting the focus to be about her or her health. Brenda was more interested in how others were doing and their families. She was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church and United Women in Faith.
While attending Hutchinson Community College, she met her husband, David Marshall. They were married August 15, 1981, at South Hutchinson United Methodist Church.
Brenda is survived by: her devoted husband of almost 45 years, David of Hutchinson; son, Chris (Ginger) Marshall of Syracuse, UT; daughter, Jamie (Matt) Meier of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Audrey Marshall, Jessie Meier, and Tanner Meier; siblings, Steve (Vonda) Gill of Sylvia, Cindy (Galen) Childs of Abbyville, and Carol (Randy) Vogel of Marion; brother-in-law, Dr, Stephen (DeAnna) Marshall of Wichita; sister-in-law, Becky (Jon) Burrell of Spring Hill; aunts, Maxine Willinger and Gloria Willinger; uncle, Roger Rundle; and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins; and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Dwain and Phyllis Gill; in-laws, Janice and Bruce Marshall; maternal grandparents, Charles and Gertrude Willinger; and paternal grandparents, Carl and Edith Gill.
Celebration of Life service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1602 N. Main Street, Hutchinson, with Pastor Craig Hauschild officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2026, at Elliott Mortuary. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 24, at Trinity United Methodist Church. (Enter through the main sanctuary doors).
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
Brenda was the light in a dark room and had an impact on everyone she met. Those impacted will live on in the lives she touched. We can all learn from Brenda that in the valleys of life hold steadfast to your faith and never give up.
Well done, good and faithful servant.
