Burtice Jane Carson Layman, 95, died Friday, September 27, 2013. She was a resident at Dillon Living Center. She was born July 17, 1918, on a farm north of Zenith, Kansas, the daughter of Cephas and Minnie Swisher Carson.

Burtice graduated from Sylvia High School in 1935.

On July 24, 1940, she married Joy Layman. He died in 1952.

She was a secretary at South Hutchinson Elementary School for 26 years before retiring in 1983. Burtice was a member of Eastwood Church of Christ. She was also a charter member of Towne and Country FCE.

She is survived by: sons, Terry Layman and wife Carole, Lebanon, Oregon, Richard (Rick) Layman and wife Marla, Broomfield, Colorado; grandchildren, John Layman, Olathe, Kansas, Ty Layman, Broomfield, Colorado, Jennifer Drouhard, Derby, KS, Jonathan Yoder, Independence, Oregon, and Jamison and wife Sarah Yoder of Garden Plain, KS; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister, Beryl Stiggins, and a foster brother, Robert (Bob) Carson.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at Elliott Chapel, with Jimie-Wray Mead presiding. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery, Arlington. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
