SPRINGFIELD, Missouri - C. David Hayes, 67, died Jan. 1, 2008, at Table Rock Lake, Mo.

He was born May 22, 1940, in Mocksville, N.C., the son of Richard D. and Mary Martin Hayes. He had received his Masters Degree in the field of science from the University of Texas at El Paso. A resident of Huntsville, Texas, he was the recently retired Business Analyst for the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston.

He belonged to the First United Methodist Church, Huntsville, Texas, and the Academy of Model Aeronautics. He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War and was a specialist in biological and nuclear weapons disposal.

On June 11, 1972, he married Carol Rostine in Wichita Falls, Texas. She survives.

Other survivors include: a daughter, Debra Welch, El Paso, Texas; stepchildren, Allison Bond, Houston, and Jennifer Tomlinson, Port Lavaca, Texas; stepfather, Zeb Osborne, Miami; mother-in-law, Virginia Rostine, Springfield, Mo.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kathy Rostine Stewart, Bill and Karen Rostine, and Mike and Joan Rostine Salmon, all of Springfield, Mo., and Scott and Mary Rostine Newby, Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Thomas, Jessamy, Sarah Tomlinson, and Melissa Welch; and numerous special nephews and nieces

He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law, Bill Rostine, and brother-in-law, Herb Stewart.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hester Chapel, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, with Pastor Pat Ault-Duell presiding. Friends may sign the register from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. The casket will remain closed. Burial will be in McPherson City Cemetery, McPherson, with military graveside rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard, and the M cPherson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2715.
