Calvin Walter "Lefty" Goertzen, 86, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, at Good Samaritan Center in peaceful sleep with loving family beside him.
He was born July 10, 1926, to Isaac Goertzen and Marjorie Lillian Chrisman.
He grew up in Hutchinson and attended Hutchinson schools. He was called to the Korean War with the United States Army and served as Corporal in the medical corps. Calvin then worked for Morton Salt Company in production for 35 years before retiring. He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose #982 and a 60-year member of American Legion Lyle Rishel Post #68, both in Hutchinson. He played sports for many years, including bowling and baseball. He loved activities at Elmdale Senior Center, especially the music and dancing. His great enjoyment was fishing and hunting. He and his brother, Leslie, provided food for their family during the Depression.
Calvin is survived by a sister, Arlene Barb, and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Darlow and Leslie; and a sister, Bonnie Lee Hoskins.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at Elliott Chapel with Reverend Tyler Vance officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday with the family to receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
