Calvin A. Polk, 90, died July 8, 2015, at his home in Hutchinson. He was born Feb. 23, 1925, in Bedford, Ind., the son of Albert and Delphia (Smith) Polk.

Calvin graduated from Needmore, Ind., High School in 1943, Hutchinson Junior College in 1947, Emporia State Teachers College in 1949, received his master's degree from Ball State University and his doctorate degree from the University of Kansas. He had a 60-year career as a teacher, principal and school administrator in the communities of Longton, Castleton, Pretty Prairie, and from 1974 to 1988, he worked with the Reno County Educational Cooperative. Calvin was a member of Union Valley Bible Church, was inducted into the Kansas Teachers Hall of Fame in 2005, and served in the U.S. Navy during WW2.

On Oct. 21, 1944, he married Earline E. Stoughton in Hutchinson. He is survived by: his wife, Earline of the home; son, Earl Polk and wife Pam of Burrton; son-in-law, John Murphy and wife Micki of Highland Ranch, Colo.; grandchildren, Sparkle Faidley and husband Luke, J.J. Polk and wife Amanda, Jeff Polk and wife Betty, Katie Murphy, and Connor Murphy; great-grandchildren, Sophia Faidley, Malachie Lehmann and Jacy Polk. He was preceded in death by: a son, Jerry; a daughter, Debbie Murphy; and brothers, William, Chester and Lee Polk.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 13, 2015, at Union Valley Bible Church, 1916 E. 30th, Hutchinson, with Pastor Steve Hodgson officiating. Burial will follow in Eastside Cemetery, Hutchinson, with military honors conducted by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson.
