Carl Steven Helsel, 51, of Hutchinson, went to be with his Lord on May 13, 2018, at his home. He was born March 1, 1967, in Liberal, the son of Robert N. 'Bob' and E. Ruth (Alexander) Helsel.

Carl graduated from Winfield High School in 1985 and worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation for over 30 years, most recently as Equipment Shop Superintendent. He loved cooking and gardening and his dog, 'Shaggy.' Carl was a member of CrossPoint Church, Hutchinson, serving in their Children's Ministry department.

On May 14, 1994, he married Beth Ellen King in Pratt. She survives.

Other survivors include: his mother, Ruth of Winfield; brother, David E. Helsel (Christal) of Winfield; sisters, Jennifer Helsel of Wichita, and Mary K. Kadau (Neil) of Winfield; nieces and nephews, Rebecca Smith, Brian and Stefanie Kadau, Crystal Arnold, Charity Human, Skyler and Jermaine Helsel; 12 great-nieces and nephews; one aunt and three uncles.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 9 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2018, at CrossPoint Church, 1410 E. 30th Ave., Hutchinson, with Pastor Andy Addis officiating. Friends may sign the memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday at Elliott Mortuary. Memorial donations are suggested to CrossPoint Church Children's Ministry, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N.
